The Munich Premiere of… What began as a passionate music blog in 2006 is now a renowned music label: Awesome Tapes From Africa. Label founder Brian Shimkovitz shares his fascination for cassette music from the African continent with us – from Ghana to Ethiopia, from traditional to pop – and talks about encounters with artists he has brought to international attention. In a living room talk with Sebastian Reier, Shimkovitz will provide insights into fair music production, global research trips and his Berlin “Listening and Learning Center”. The evening will be complemented by Osagie Airen aka Ellisprincewhite, a Nigerian musician based in Munich, who will talk about his perspective on nostalgia, pop and Afrobeat – and perform a few of his own songs. Then it’s off to the Werk*raum for the TAM TAM TANZTREFF with a DJ and tape set by Brian Shimkovitz in the Werk*raum sharing the decks with the one and only Hans Nieswandt!
