— registration is required — In his autobiographical directorial debut, Faraz Shariat, born in 1994, tells an authentic yet wonderfully heightened story of growing up queer as the son of immigrants in Germany. With this, he presents a bold counterpoint to conventional German cinema, where post-migrant experiences and the stories of immigrants and their families are all too often excluded or misrepresented. For its sensitive, pop-infused, and powerful plea for diversity, Futur Drei was awarded Best Feature Film at the First Steps Award in 2019. Shariat’s young cast (Banafshe Hourmazdi, Eidin Jalali, Benjamin Radjaipour) received the Götz George Newcomer Award.
