A Plea for a Society of Reciprocity — How Can We Finally Achieve Inclusion? A Personal and Political Story When Hadija Haruna-Oelker became the mother of a disabled child in 2016, her life was filled with issues often confined to closed doors. Since then, she has been exploring why true participation for all children is lacking, why inclusion remains a concept on paper, and how social Darwinist ideas are gaining traction in society. From a Black, intersectional perspective, Haruna-Oelker delves into untold stories and suppressed crimes from the past. She reflects on her growing son, believing that childhood holds the power to bridge divides and address the unsaid. As a non-disabled mother, she sees herself not only as an ally to her child but also as an advocate for broader societal reflection, a shift in perspectives, and a more accessible understanding of human rights. At its core, her vision is for a society of reciprocity where everyone can live autonomously. At the Werk*raum of the Münchner Kammerspiele, Hadija Haruna-Oelker will read from her book and engage in a conversation with ensemble member Erwin Aljukić about equality of opportunity and what solidarity and connection can look like in challenging times.
